Function description
From the current FW 1.01 version on, the PROFIsafe safety protocol is also supported by the Profinet communication module. Die PROFIsafe functionality is implemented the same way as for the Profibus DP communication module.
Applications
The PROFIsafe safety protocol is used for safety-related system parts and is preferably used with fail-safe Programmable Logic Control of Siemens.
Note:
Currently it is still possible in case of some 9400 types to operate the safety bus via both module slots. This, however, causes problems if both slots are provided with communication modules which support a safety bus (Profibus DP, Profinet and EtherCAT). This will be changed successively in terms of hardware so that a bus with safety protocol (PROFIsafe) can only be operated via the upper slot (MXI1) of the standard device. In order to be already able today to exchange a standard device without any problems, plug the communication module with the safety bus system only into the upper slot of the standard device.
