Application data are not loaded to the target system

Which products are affected?
Card File Handler V1.2
EMZ2221IB (Card Module)

ECSxA (ECS axis module as of V6.5)
EPL-10200 (Drive PLC as of V6.5)

What happens?
The Card File Handler is a tool which is used to generate a drive set consisting of a DDS binary file (*.bin) and an application data file (*.lc9). This drive set is exported to a SmartMedia card (menu item: File > Card > Export to SmartMedia card). The drive set is loaded from the SmartMedia card to a PLC target system by means of the Card Module. However, application data is not loaded in the PLC target system during the export process described.

When does the problem occur?
The response described above occurs if the drive set is loaded for an ECS axis module or Drive PLC.
Downloads to a Servo PLC are not affected by this function restriction.

Background information:
In case of the ECS axis module and Drive PLC application data is saved in the program memory. In order to download application data this type of data must be attached to the binary file (DDS project). The Card Module is not able to do this.
In case of the Servo PLC the application data is saved in an own memory area, i.e. not in the program memory. Therefore, the binary file and application data file can be loaded separately to the Servo PLC.

If a drive set from a Card Module is to be uploaded the Card Module reads the complete program memory. As a result, the application data is read from the ECS axis module and the Drive PLC and can therefore be reloaded to the target system.

Possible diagnostics?
Use the following codes to check if after the download of the drive set the application data is in the target system:
  • C2130: Symbolic application data name
  • C2132: Application data name
  • C2133: Time stamp of the application data

Short-term measures/recommendations?
Add the application data to the DDS project. Regarding this, select the application data via the Cam Support option of DDS (Resources tab). In case of a DDS project for an ECS axis module or Drive PLC the application data is written to a binary file when the project is compiled. If this binary file is downloaded via the Card File Handler and Card Module the application data is loaded into the PLC target system, too.

Evaluation:
The user interface of the Card File Handler makes the user believe that a drive set consisting of a binary file (*.bin), parameter set file (*.gdc) and application data file (*.lc9) can be generated for every PLC target system. In case of the ECS axis module and Drive PLC target systems the application data file cannot be downloaded by the Card Module. At present, there only exists a small number of ECS axis module and Drive PLC applications which use the application data.
