Application data can be downloaded while the Servo PLC is running

Which products are affected?

GD Loader Version 2.0
EVS93xx-ET (Servo PLC Version V6.x)

What happens?

The following two responses can occur:

1. The following error message is displayed when downloading the application data: An error occurred during program transfer. The transferred program is not complete.
2. When downloading the application data by using the GD Loader the PLC reads undefined values from the application data memory RAM. In case of CAM applications this may lead to undefined axis movements. The PLC is not stopped until the application data download has been completed.
When does the problem occur?

By using the GD Loader application data (e.g. cam profile data) can be transferred separately by the binary file and parameter set in a Servo PLC. The application data is copied at the same time in the application data memory ROM (Flash) and in the application data memory RAM. If only the application data is transferred the GD Loader does not check whether the Servo PLC is still running or the controller inhibit of the Servo PLC is set, i.e. regardless whether the PLC is stopped or inhibited the application data is transferred to the Servo PLC by the GD Loader.

Possible diagnostics?

None.

Short-term measures/recommendations?

The Servo PLC must be stopped before downloading the application data. This can be done via the menu item Online>PLC Stop of the GD Loader. Moreover, we recommend inhibiting the controller from the hardware side.

This function restriction has been eliminated with GD Loader version 2.1. In order to avoid an incorrect operation of the GD Loader right from the start, version 2.1 should be used instead of version 2.0.
Please inform those customers who have participated in the GD Loader version 2.0 field test that GD Loader Version 2.1 is available in the Internet and that this new version should be used instead of version 2.0.

Evaluation:

This function restriction makes it possible that the Servo PLC accesses the application data while the GD Loader deletes or rewrites them. At present the application data memory is used to save cam profile data. A simultaneous access of Servo PLC and GD Loader can cause undefined drive movements of the Servo PLC.
Customers could only obtain the Global Drive Loader software version 2.0 within the framework of the field test. We have not distributed this software version in another way.
