Which products are affected?
ESP-HMI1-P (HMI Designer V1.2 and higher)
What happens?
When a translation file is imported (menu item: Tools>Import translation) the following message occurs:
Import has been done with errors.
See import .log file in the directory of translations file.
The message occurs although the translation file has been exported by the HMI Designer (menu item: Tools>Export translation) and re-imported without any modification.
Despite errors during the import of a translation file the project can be translated correctly.
When does the problem occur?
The error message is displayed if a text in its original language, i.e. in the first language, is shorter than its translation into another language.
Generally, translations that are longer than the original text cannot be entered by means of the HMI Designer. However, via the menu item: Configuration>Project languages and fonts any language can be selected as original language. This can even be done subsequently.
This means that, if an original language text is translated into another language with a shorter text, which is now selected as original language, the translated text (original language before) is too long. In this case the response described above will occur.
As of HMI Designer Version 1.6 SP1 the complete translation text will be imported despite the error message indicated. In older HMI Designer versions the translation text is shortened (i.e. cut) to the text length in the original language.
Possible diagnostics?
Check by means of the Log-file if the original language texts in the translation file are shorter than their translation.
Short-term measures / recommendations?
Select a language as original language and do not modify it when the HMI project is created. Export the translations only if this language is selected. Do not modify the text as long as another language is selected as original language.
If during the import process the error message described above occurs adapt the length of the translations in the translation file to the text length in the original language.
Evaluation:
The HMI Designer may detect errors in the translation file when translations are imported to multilingual HMI projects. Although errors have been detected during the import the HMI project can be translated correctly and transferred to the HMI. The errors detected are documented by the HMI Designer and can be eliminated by the user.
