Parameterisation or programming, explanation of terms for controller 9300

Question:

What is the difference between parameterisation and programming?

Answer:

Parameterisation

With the standard devices in series 9300 the entire functionality of the drive system is permanently stored in the drive and the user can merely select these functions, or activate and alter them by setting parameters. The drive is parameterised.

Programming

Servo PLC and Drive PLC are based on a different concept. Here it is only partial functionality which the operating system permanently stores in the device. The actual user application is programmed in the Drive PLC Developer Studio using the IEC1131-3 programming language and is then loaded into the drive. In the program download to the PLC only the function blocks are downloaded which are in the libraries previously linked to the DDS project. If the program provides for certain setting options, they can then be changed with parameters during operation.
