For the information exchange within automation systems, as well as with the connected decentral field devices nowadays serial field busses are mainly used as communication systems. The PROFIBUS is the leading, universally applicable, open field bus system in Europe. Transmission speed up to 12 Mbit/s; mostly the transmission rates 0.5 and 1.5 Mbit/s are used.
