i950: Device fan with two power levels – switching thresholds for heat sink and control card

Question:
i950: How and at what switching thresholds is the fan, or in the case of larger devices, the fans, controlled?

Answer:
The smaller i950 devices have a common fanfor coolingthe power section(heat sink) and control card (interior). Larger devices have several fans, but these are controlled together as if there were only one fan.
The fans have two power levels, which are controlled depending on the temperature thresholds for the power section (heat sink) and the control card (measured on the microprocessor).

The switching thresholds are logically OR-linked, i.e., exceeding only one of the two associated temperature thresholds is sufficient to activate a level.
Conversely, both thresholds must be undershot in order for the respective power stage to be switched off.

Temperature thresholds for fan control:

i950, device typeBF3 (only one fan for heat sink and interior):

  • Level 1 (low power):
    Heat sink: On/Off: 65 °C / 55 °C
    Control card:On/Off: 90 °C / 70 °C
  • Level 2 (full power):
    Heat sink:On/Off: 83 °C / 73 °C
    Control card:On/Off: 95 °C / 80 °C
i950, device type BF5 (only one fan for heat sink and interior),
i950, device designBF6 (twofans for heat sinks and one for interior),
i950, device design BF7 (two fans for heat sinks and one for interior),
i950, device design BF8 (two fans for heat sinks and one for interior),
i950, device designBF9  (two fans for heat sinks and one for interior):
  • Level 1 (low power):
    Heat sink: On/Off: 70 °C / 60 °C
    Control card:On/Off: 90 °C / 60 °C
  • Level 2 (full power):
    Heat sink:On/Off: 88 °C / 78 °C
    Control card:On/Off: 95 °C / 65 °C
The specified temperature values for the switching thresholds may vary by +/- 5K for some devices.

Temperature monitoring:
If the temperature at the heat sink exceeds the value specified in parameter 0x2D84:002 (default: 90 °C), a warning message is issued.
The warning is reset with a hysteresis of approx. 5 °C.
If the heat sink temperature continues to rise and exceeds the set error threshold (100 °C), the inverter switches to the "Fault" device state and is locked, preventing further operation is prevented.

Display of current temperatures:

  • 0x2D84:001: Heat sink
  • 0x2539:002: Control card
