Keypad does not transmit via the command response area
Which products are affected?
ESP-HMI1-P (HMI Designer Version 1.6)
What happens?
A device (e. g. a PLC) can request information (e.g. the current time) from the keypad via the command area of the keypad. After receiving such a command the keypad returns the response (e. g. the time) to the device (PLC) via the command response area of the keypad.
The keypad does not response to a command of a device (PLC) via the command response area. However, the device recognises that the keypad received the command since the command was acknowledged by the keypad. For that purpose the keypad transmits a zero into the instruction word of the device.
When does the problem occur?
The command response area works dependent on the position of the device inside the project manager. If the device is not located at the top of the project manager the keypad does not transmit data via the command response area.
The position of the device depends on the name of the device since the list in the project manager is listed in alphabetical order.
Possible diagnostics?
None.
Short-term measures/recommendations?
This function restriction is eliminated with Service Pack 1 of the HMI Designer version 1.6. The Service Pack can be downloaded free of charge from the article Service Pack 1 of HMI Designer V1.6 (Doc-ID 200411969).
Evaluation:
The function restriction is detected during the commissioning process of the project at the latest. At present the command response area is used rather seldom.
