FAST IoT Core OPC UA Adaptor - current documentation and service description

Description

The Edge solution is getting more and more in the focus of the OEM. One of the reasons is to take software functionality that is not required for Realtime out of the machine controller to provide full resources to the motion application. It is also possible to choose a lower controller size by overall saving costs.

Another reason is related to do data handling management, which often includes data collection, processing, and storage functionality near by the machine, i.e. on premise, rather than going directly to the cloud. By combining several machine applications in one edge device, implementation and support costs get reduced. Edge device and docker technology allows easy software updates with no impact to the running machine.

Providing a standardized edge stack as fundament for an edge app brings more reliability and security with a high number of functionalities. It is reducing development time by minimizing the risk for the OEM app development by using this stack.

The edge stack provides a full software framework for connectivity, diagnostics, database storages, common UI and API access, strong support and life cycle management. These so called core functionalities are bundled in the FAST IoT Core OPC UA Adaptor and must be installed as a package/bundle.
