Defective SD cards when using device descriptions <V3.12 (corrected from V3.15.1)

Corrected from:
c300 cabinet controller V3.15.1
p300 panel controller V3.15.1

Response of the new version:
If a c300 / p300 controller of version V3.11 or lower (device description) is used in a PLC Designer project and the project is started on a controller using firmware version V3.15.1 or higher, the file system on the controller's SD card will no longer be damaged.

What happens?
The file system on the controller's SD card is defective. This may have an impact on the PLC boot project, the logbook or the retain data.

When does this behaviour occur?
The behaviour occurs if a c300 / p300 controller of version V3.11 or lower (device description) is used in a PLC Designer project and the project is started on a controller using firmware version V3.12 or higher.
In the controller, the device description version is indicated under 'Information'.

This situation may, e.g. arise after updating the controller firmware or after replacing devices.

Which products are affected?
Cabinet Controller c300 from V3.12
Panel Controller p300 PLC from V3.12

Short-term measures:
There are two alternatives for controllers with projects using device descriptions of version V3.11 or lower:
  1. Update the device description in the project (context menu command 'Update device') and the firmware in the controller to V3.14 or higher (at least to V3.12) and reload the boot application into the controller.
  2. When replacing a device including a project with a device description lower than V3.12, only use devices with firmware versions up to and including V3.11.
The information with which device description the PLC Designer project has been created cannot be read out from the controller or the SD card.

Do not update the controller firmware for devices which have already been delivered!

Evaluation/recommendations:

If the c300 or the p300 controller is equipped with a firmware version higher than the version defined in the PLC Designer project, the file system of the SD card may be damaged. This may occur when updating the firmware or replacing the SD card. For this reason, the application may start with initialised variable values or not start at all.
