Compatibility with the EMF 2131 module (elimination)

Which products are affected?

EMF-2133IB  Profibus-DP communication module software version 1.0

What happens?

The response telegram of a 2133 Profibus module, '2131' mode (compatibility), is not compatible with the 2131 Profibus module in case of a parameter write job. The difference can be found in the first byte (the so-called job byte).

The job byte which is sent by the master changes between 32h and 72h because of the handshake bit. In case of the 2131 module the response telegram changes between 30h and 70h. Compared to that the job byte in the response telegram of the 2133 module, mode '2131' (compatibility), software version ≤ 0.9 of changes between 00h and 40h.

When does the problem occur?

If the EMF-2131IB communication module is exchanged for an EMF-2133IB module and if the last-mentioned module is set to '2131' (compatibility) by using the DIP switch. The error only becomes relevant if the customer monitors the complete job byte of the response telegram.

Possible diagnostics?

If error messages occur during parameter communication when exchanging the 2131 module for the 2133 with set mode '2131' (compatibility) the problem described above can occur.

Short-term measures/recommendations?

The user should only monitor bit 7 (error bit) of the job byte. If this bit is 1 the data bytes indicate the error code.
