SD8 encoder monitoring for SinCos encoders in operation

Which products are affected?

EVS9300-EI (Servo PLC software version 2.2)
EVS9300-ET (Servo PLC software version 2.2)

Applications:

Applications with high resolution requirements with SinCos encoders for speed and location information.

Function description:

Encoder monitoring has been extended for a SinCos encoder connected to terminal X8. It uses a plausibility check to determine whether the encoder is present and whether the sine and cosine tracks are supplying appropriate values to one another.

The following errors can be detected:
  • Connector unplugged, all encoder signals open
  • Single wire breakage and therefore the absence of one of the following signals: COS A, RefCOS A, SIN B, RefSIN B, GND or VCC
  • Double wire breakage of signal pairs COS A and RefCOS A, SIN B and RefSIN B, COS A and SIN B or RefCOS A and RefSIN B, or of all 4 signals
  • Short circuits between the signals, between VCC and the signals and between GND and the signals

The following errors are not detected:
  • Cable/encoder errors with intermediate values, 'semi'-short circuits (> 0 ohm) and 'semi'-interruptions/breakages (< infinite)

If an encoder error occurs, an SD8 error is displayed (C0161 = 88). The error can only be reset by connecting the mains. The error response can be set with code position C0580 (off = default setting or trip).
