Motors M540: Inappropriate default values for current, field and field weakening controller

Corrected from:
Servo-Inverter i950 FW: from V01.xx.xx.xxxx (in planning)

Response of the new version:
In the motor descriptions of the  engineering tools EASY Starter + PLC Designer, an adapted Lss saturation characteristic is now given for the M540 motor series.
When selecting a corresponding motor from the catalogue, its values are entered into the parameters of the i950, i700, i750 or 9400 devices provided for this purpose.
In this way, the special characteristics of the inductances of these motors are taken into account and operation with default values for current, field and field-weakening controllers works as expected.
Note: For 9400, the consideration of the characteristics must be activated in C2859:0.
.

What happens?
Already during the initial commissioning of a motor of the M540 series on the i950, loud control noises occur directly with controller release; even if the gear motor is not coupled to any mechanics.
Operation in the field weakening may also be unstable.

When does the behaviour occur?
  • By selecting any motor of the M540 series via the C86 code from the EASY-Starter motor catalogue, the default values for current, field and field-weakening controllers are set to dynamic.
  • The calculation algorithm assumes symmetrical inductances in the rotor and stator, which are not given in these motors.
  • The calculation algorithm is used in the i950 and equally in the EASY Starter / PLC Designer.
Which products are affected?
Servo-Inverter i950 FW and Engineering Tools EASY Starter + PLC Designer

Short-term measures / Evaluation / recommendations:

One-time measure during the initial commissioning of an affected engine:

For motors of the M540 series, after selecting the type from the motor catalogue, a motor parameter identification must be carried out with the drive mode 0x2825:0 = 9: Motor parameter identification.
The motor must be at a standstill; ideally it is firmly braked.
In the Settings dialogues in EASY Starter or PLC Designer, you will find the call for the identification run in the motor settings.

Subsequently, various axis commands support 0x2822 in the correct parameterisation depending on the motor control mode and the desired functions.
These must be called from the parameter list Drive: Commissioning functions.

Motor control type 0x2C00:0 = 6: V/f control (open loop):

  • 0x2822:18: Calculate Imin Controller Parameters
  • 0x2822:19: Calculate Imax controller parameters
  • 0x2822:20: Calculate capture controller parameters if capture is to be activated (0x2BA0:0 > 0)
Servo motor control type 0x2C00:0 = 1 or 2:
  • 0x2822:13 Calculate current controller parameters
  • 0x2822:16: Calculate field controller parameters
  • 0x2822:17: Calculate field weakening controller parameters
The motor and control parameters determined in this way can also be used in other applications for all motors of the same type.

Evaluation:
Usability limitation. Despite using a Lenze motor, additional steps are required during commissioning, as with a 3rd party motor.
With knowledge of the cause and the i950's automatic identification and calculation functions, a practical workaround can be applied until the limitation is resolved.
