Incorrect calculation of max. traversing distance C1213/1 and positioning accuracy C1210/5

Corrected from:

Response of the new version:

An additional status bit C1247/0 bit14 indicates by TRUE if particular machine parameter settings lead to a limitation in the position resolution C1205/0.

1247/000 bit14: Position resolution limit = TRUE means:

The position resolution calculated from the entered machine data and displayed in C1205/0 has been limited to the maximum display range of 214748.3647 incr./unit. The actual value is higher!

Now, the limited position resolution from C1205/0 will no longer be used for the internal calculations of the positioning accuracy C1210/5 and the maximum traversing distance C1213/1, but the actual position resolution will be used. In this way, the values displayed in C1210/5 and C1213/1 will be correct, irrespective of the machine parameters.

What happens?

The displayed max. traversing distance (C1213/001) is higher than the expected value. Positioning processes to targets higher than the expected traversing distance are not completed. Positioning stops at the internal value range limit, e.g. 2^31-1incr..

With the reduced resolution, the physical positioning accuracy (C1210/005) referred to 1 position encoder increment will not be displayed correctly.

When does this behaviour occur?

The behaviour occurs, it the calculation of the position resolution results in a value > 214748.3647incr./unit.
The position resolution is calculated as follows:

Grafik_PositionResolution.jpg

Which products are affected?

  • Inverter Drives 8400 HighLine < V16.00.00
  • Inverter Drives 8400 TopLine < V16.00.00

 Short-term measures:

Change the scaling of the traversing range e.g. from [mm] to [cm] by changing the feed constant C1204.

Evaluation/recommendations:

With typical machine parameters, the function restriction does not occur. In many applications, an incorrect display of the mentioned display parameters will not have any effects on the functionality. The movement will only be limited if the positioning distance is actually higher than 2^31-1 increments.
The behaviour may occur sporadically. It may only occur if the high positioning distances are actually requested.
