Function description
Due to the Ethernet 2 port switch of the communication module it is possible to establish a line topology.
Applications
If the line topology is used, the lengths of the cables can be kept as short as possible. Moreover, no additional switches are required for the wiring.
Note:
With max. Ethernet telegram length, the runtime of every communication module is delayed by 125 µs due to the integrated switch of the 2 port Ethernet communication module. The use of external switches also leads to a delay in the runtime. Dependent on the system constellation it may make sense to establish a mixed star/line topology.
The Ethernet 2 port communication module can be replaced without restrictions in existing systems equipped with Ethernet 1 port. In this case a message is entered once in the 9400 logbook that the serial number has changed. However, this message would also be entered in the logbook if a 1 port module was replaced by a new 1 port module.
