Synchronous motor can overspeed after switchover to absolute value encoder

Which products are affected?

9300EP servo positioning controller version V2.1

What happens?

The synchronous motor can overspeed.

When does the problem occur?

Synchronous motor can overspeed if in the encoder selection there is a switch to absolute value encoder and no mains connection is performed before the enable signal. After the changeover to absolute value encoder the latter must not be used straight away but only after a re-initialisation with mains connection. If this is not done, the rotor angle required for operation of the synchronous motor will not be correct.

Possible diagnostics?

None because owing to the principle there is no comparative value for the rotor angle.

Short-term measures/recommendations?

Make sure that after the switchover to an absolute value encoder a mains connection is always performed.

Evaluation:

Response generally occurs just after initial commissioning if the encoder is also selected. Later, initialisation is always performed properly after the mains connection.
