Question:
What is the effect of the function plug braking on the ECS supply module?
How does it work and how should it be used?
Answer:
Plug braking enables an non-stabilized braking of synchronous motors without energy from the DC bus.
The DC bus is discharged by the brake resistor, and the connected synchronous motors are shorted by the DC bus. The energy of the motors is supplied to the common DC bus by the trip-free circuit of the inverters in the ECS axis modules. At the brake resistor it is converted into heat.
Plug braking can be used in following cases:
• The DC bus is to be discharged quickly.
• In case of voltage failure or grave failures (e. g. failure of an axis controller)
With code C0127 the function plug braking is parameterized in the ECS supply module. Plug braking can be activated via CAN bus, dig. input or trip.
