Mains connection without 24 V supply of the axis modules

Question:

Why should the power at the supply module not be switched on, when there are still one or more of the connected axis modules without 24 V supply?

Answer:

If the ECS modules have no 24 V supply, the charging resistors for the DC bus will not be bypassed continuously, even when C0175 = 3 (resistances bypassed) has been set before. In this status each voltage modification in the DC bus leads to current flows via the charging resistors, which result in heating. It is especially unfavourable, when other axis modules are enabled now and motors are operated. The regular operation of the axis module always leads to voltage fluctuations in the DC bus. They are dependent on the current and on the DC bus capacity. There will be correspondingly high recharging currents via the non-bypassed charging resistors of the axis modules, which can lead to overheating.
