Position limits cannot be reached

Question:

What could be the reason for the fact that that the drive cannot be positioned up to the position limits?

Answer:

For position controller 9300 the position limits C1223 and C1224 can be entered to within a maximum of ±214000 units. In certain machine parameter situations (gearbox ratio, feed constant) it can happen that the position limits entered are automatically restricted to a maximum value. This is the case if the internal numerical format is exceeded without limitation.
In the event of an internal limitation the input values of C1223 and C1224 remain unchanged; the internally restricted values for the position limits are indicated under C1220/10 and C1220/11 in units and under C1221/10 and C1221/11 in increments (see GDC menu: 'Monitoring functions').
In the event of a limitation a warning is displayed: 'P18 Internal limitation' (see operating instructions for servo positioning controller 9300, Section 'Fault messages').

Another possible cause arises from the relations of the dimensional systems. The position limits relate to the machine origin and set target positions relate to the real origin. The distance between the two origins is determined by reference offset. If there is a shift (reference offset is not equal to zero), the target positions have to be adjusted accordingly in order to be able to travel up to the position limits (cf. system manual for servo positioning controller 9300 Part D2.1 Section 'Dimensional systems').
