Question:
Is it possible to use encoders with more than 16384 pulses?
Answer:
The Servo Drives 9400 can evaluate incremental encoders (TTL and SinCos encoders) with up to 16384 pulses per revolution.
Encoders with a higher pulse number per revolution (e. g. 18000 pulses) cannot be directly read in.
Operation will, however, be possible if the controller parameters are changed.
For this, the following parameters have to be changed:
C00087 * 2 Rated motor speed
C00011 * 2 Motor reference speed
C00420 * 0.5 Encoder PPR
C00070 * 0.5 Speed controller gain
C00596 * 2 Threshold max. speed reached
NOTE: With these parameters, the controller will continuously work at twice the physical speed!
Accordingly, the controller will e.g. indicate a speed of 1000 rpm when the motor rotates at 500 rpm.
Percentage values are not affected.
For using the limiter and integrating an SM301 safety module, all speed values must be selected 2 times higher than the physical speed if they refer to speed information from the feedback system.
During commissioning, you have to check in detail if the monitoring functions respond to certain speeds.
Furthermore, the max. input frequency of the encoder interface has to be considered. The max. value must not be exceeded.
The above-described proceeding can also be applied to other devices even if different input limits and code numbers are involved.
