Voltage level of CAN communication

Question:

Which voltage levels can be expected on the bus cables in case of communication via CAN?

Answer:

If communication is made via CAN bus (according to ISO 11898) the voltage levels of the CAN High / CAN Low signal refer to a reference voltage of 2.5 V. In High state the voltage level of the CAN high signal is raised by 1 V to 3.5 V and simultaneously the CAN Low signal is lowered by 1 V to 1.5 V. In Low state the voltage levels of the two signal cables are 2.5 V each (reference voltage). The indicated voltage values refer to the CAN ground potential. The figure below shows this.
