Question:
What can be the reason for a system crash when you go online with GDC via Lecom?
Answer:
When the GDC software is installed it is checked which COM Ports (RS232) of the computer are available. Then the next available COM Port is entered in file gdc32.ini as a default. Generally, this is COM Port '1'. In the Windows operating system the first COM Port (COM 1) is declared as COM Port 0 (COM Port 2 as COM Port 1 etc).
The reason for the system crash can be an incorrect entry in file GDC32.INI. In order to correct the entry, follow these steps:
The file gdc32.ini can be opened and edited with each regular text editor. It can be found in ....\Program Files\Lenze\GDC_x-xx\bin. The setting of the communication path Lecom can be found in [LCM_AB] in the entry 'Port=0'. There should be a 0 for the COM Port 1. Our experience shows that during GDC installation the COM Port 1 has not been available, so that in file gdc32.ini the entry 'Port=1' has been entered. If a connection was tried to be created with GDC via Lecom, GDC accessed the COM Port 2. If this COM Port is physically not available, a Windows system crash can follow. In this case modify the entry in file gdc32.ini from 'Port=1' to 'Port=0'. These modifications are to be stored in the file. After this, faultless communication with GDC and Lecom is possible.
