Question:
What is the max. quantity of modules that can be plugged to a gateway EPM-T110 in connection with PLC-devices?
Answer:
Generally, there are two limitations regarding the maximum quantity of pluggable modules, which have to be considered for dimensioning:
- Up to 32 modules can be connected next to the CAN gateway module.
- Up to 10 Transmit PDOs (PDO-Tx) are available for the processing of input signals and additionally 10 receive PDOs (PDO-Rx) for the processing of output signals.
If for dimensioning one of the conditions is not sufficient, another 'gateway node' will be required with a different CAN node address.
Below we listed some maximum project stages of pluggable modules at a gateway:
1. Example digital input and output modules:
256 digital inputs (16 * digital input module EPM-T211 / 16 channels per module)
and
256 digital outputs (16 * digital output module EPM-T223 / 16 channels per module)
(The limit of max. 32 pluggable modules is reached)
2. Example analogous input and output modules:
36 analogous input channels (9 * analogous input module EPM-T310 / 4 channels per module)
and
36 analogous input channels (9 * analogous output module EPM-T320 / 4 channels per module)
(The limit is reached due to the max. quantity of the usable PDOs)
3. Example combination of digital and analogous input and output modules:
224 digital inputs (14 * digital input module EPM-T211 / 16 channels per module)
and
224 digital outputs (14 * digital output module EPM-T223 / 16 channels per module)
and
8 analogous input channels (2 * input module EPM-T310 / 4 channels per module)
and
8 analogous output channels (2 * output module EPM-T320 / 4 channels per module)
(The limit of max. 32 pluggable modules is reached)
Note:
For a more comfortable parameter setting and process data control of the I/O system a function block library for PLC devices is available, which can be used with the project planning software Drive PLC Developer Studio.
