Communication with HMI via PDO channels

Question:

Can operating units communicate via process data channels?

Answer:

Yes, the operating units can communicate with each connected drive controller via process data channels (PDO), as well as via parameter data channels (SDO). Usually they communicate via parameter data channels.

The parameters of individual channels are set in the project manager of the HMI Designer. For each connected drive controller the identifiers of 2 parameter data channels (Parameter channel 1 and 2) and of 3 process data channels (AN In/Out 1, 2 and 3) can be set via menu Edit > Properties, and their transmission behaviour can be parameterised (cyclic or event-controlled).

The HMI Designer automatically sets the identifiers of the 5 channels dependent on the entered bus node address of the drive controller, so that a communication with this drive controller is possible without further modifications in the HMI Designer.
If a modification of the identifiers in the HMI Designer is required, the receive identifier of the operating unit is to be set in field RX, as well as the operating unit's send identifier in field TX.

If the communication is to be executed via process data channels, a variable is to be set in the project editor of the HMI Designer. The variable is to be set as follows:
  • Data transmission from the drive controller to the operating unit:CAN OUT
  • Data transmission from the operating unit to the drive controller:CAN IN
