Load of neutral for single-phase mains supply

Question:

How high is the efficient current load of the neutral for the supply of several (at least 3) single-phase supplied inverters from a three-phase mains (e. g. 3 x 400 V + N)?

Answer:

As the mains current of an inverter is not sinusoidal (as for e. g. ohmic resistance load) the current in the neutral will not even with identical phase conductor load be zero but will be up to 200 % of the phase conductor current. This must be considered for the dimensioning of the wiring (cross-section) and load capacity of the neutral.

Note:

If the neutral load should be too high a mains supply without neutral can be chosen, see article 20031696 (mains supply of 230 V inverters).
