CAN communication via LPT1 does not work under Windows 2000 / XP

Question:

Why is communication via the system bus with CAN dongle (EMF2173IB) not possible although all the communication parameters have been entered correctly in GDC / DDS?

Answer:

The CAN dongle (EMF2173IB) is normally plugged onto parallel port LPT1 on the PC. For the CAN communication between GDC / DDS and the drive controller it is necessary that all the interrupts be enabled for the parallel port.

If Windows 2000 or Windows XP is used, the following setting must be made:
  • Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager - Ports (COM and LPT1) - ECP printer port LPT1 - Properties - Port Settings:
  • Select 'Use each interrupt assigned to the port'

With Windows 98 there is a direct selection of Interrupt 7 under ... ECP printer port LPT1 - Resources. This selection is set by default.
