With active Gateway Server other applications fail to react

Which products are affected?
ESP-DDS2-P (Global Drive PLC Developer Studio Version 2.0, 2.1)

What happens?
Communication between DDS and the target system (e.g. Servo PLC) is performed via a Gateway Server. The Gateway Server is started if the dialog Communication Parameters is opened via the menu Online>Communication Parameters or if there is a log into the target system (e.g. Servo PLC). When the Gateway Server has been started, a traffic-light symbol is displayed next to the time of day in the Windows task bar.

If the Gateway Server has been started for a lengthy period, it may happen that other applications such as HMI Designer, Acrobat Reader or the Office package run more slowly or no longer respond.

When does the problem occur?
The above-described reaction occurs with the Windows 98 operating system. Once the Gateway Server has been started, it remains activated even after DDS has been closed down.

Possible diagnostics?
None.

Short-term measures/recommendations?
Quit the Gateway Server manually. For this purpose use the right mouse button to click on the traffic-light symbol in the Windows task bar and then in the opened context menu click on the menu item Exit.

This function restriction has been remedied in DDS Version 2.2.

Evaluation:
During the generation of DDS projects there are often several applications (software programs) running simultaneously, e.g. DDS and HMI Designer. Owing to this function restriction it becomes more difficult to work with other applications. Under certain circumstances, applications no longer respond, which in the worst case can lead to data losses.
