Response times of the I/O systems input/output signals

Question:
Which response times (delays) can be roughly estimated for digital and analogue input/output modules?

Answer:
Following approx. response times can be estimated:

-- Digital input: 2-4 ms (dependent on the quantity of the plugged modules)

-- Digital output: 1-3 ms (dependent on the quantity of the plugged modules)

-- Analogue input: - 27 ms ('best case' according to the used channel with 202 conversions/s)
Thus, in case of a module with 4 channels a delay of approx. 108 ms can occur.
                         - 84 ms (in default setting according to the used channel with 15 conversions/s)
Thus, in case of a module with 4 channels a delay of approx. 340 ms can occur.

-- Analogue output - 14 ms

Remark: Consider the transmission times via the CAN fieldbus and the internal processing time of the drive controller!

On the basis of these values the calculation of the total operating time can be executed e. g. from the modification of an output signal at the module's terminal to the valuable modification in a drive controller. In the chapter 'Networking via system bus' of the I/O system IP20 documentation you will find a description of the exact calculation of the total response time including the response time via the CAN fieldbus.
