Device for connecting two networks using different communication protocols that allows you to transfer information from one network to another. A gateway transfers information and converts it into a format supported by the protocols of the receiving network.
In automation systems, gateways are often used between different data buses (e. g. CAN -> EtherCat) to connect different tasks (e.g. process and diagnostics data).
