ADSL - Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line

Digital participant connection cable with asynchronously distributed bandwidth from/to the participant.
Very quick network access technology enabling data to be transmitted via existing copper telephone cables between an information provider and a participant [downstream] with a transmission speed of up to 9 Mbit/s and in the opposite direction [upstream] with a lower data rate of up to 640 kbit/s.
ADSL transforms the data in analog, non-audible frequencies. This enables telephone conversation in the audible area in addition to the data transmission. The distance to the exchange is, however, limited to max. 6 km.
