MEPS - Minimum Energy Performance Standard

Explanation:
Performance standards (MEPS) for motors falling within the scope of the joint Australian New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 1359.5.
These are 3-phase induction motors with output ratings from 0.73 kW up to but not including 185 kW.
They are used in a wide range of applications, including airconditioning and ventilation systems, pumps, mechanical drives and compressors. The new regulation will take effect in 2006.

The standard is an element of New Zealand's 'National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Strategy' (NEECS). NEECS is part of New Zealand's 'Climate Change Policy', targeting the energy efficiency of consumer appliances, industrial and commercial equipment.
