I would like to use a servo motor with resolver RS0 or a standard asynchronous motor with resolver RS1 in connection with safe monitoring functions. What are the safety characteristics of the resolver?
Answer:
The resolvers RS0 and RS1 are no safety-encoders and must not be used in a single-encoder application with functional safety. But they may be used as one channel in a redundant encoder-system. They have the following safety characteristics according to EN ISO 13849-1:
MTTFd: 163 years
DC: 99%
The above values are only valid if the resolver is evaluated by SM301, SM302,i950 Extended Safety or i750 Extended Safety as the motor encoder!
Since 2013 the resolvers RV03 have to be used for new safety-related applications with a one-encoder-concept.
