A parameter set which has been generated by means of the basic device description cannot be downloaded

Which products are affected?
Global Drive Loader V3.0

What happens?
When the parameter set is downloaded the GD Loader indicates the following error message:
The PDB ID (PDBxxx) of the Drive Server device description does not match the PDB ID of the parameter file (PDByyy).
The parameter transfer cannot be executed. Error! (C400h)

When does the problem occur?
The response described before occurs when a parameter set file (*.gdc) is downloaded to a PLC target system (e.g. Servo PLC) if …
  • the parameter set file has been generated by means of the basic device description of the PLC target system installed via GDC and
  • the PLC target system to which the parameter set file is to be loaded uses another basic device description than the device description with which the parameter set file has been generated.

The function restriction does not occur if instead of the basic device description file the application-specific device description generated by the DDS is used to create the parameter file.

Example:
A parameter set file has been generated by means of the basic device description of the Servo PLC V6.5 (De9300plcv62000.pdb). This parameter set cannot be loaded into a Servo PLC V7.2 by means of the GD Loader V3.0 since the basic device description of the Servo PLC V7.2 (De9300plcv70000.pdb) differs from the one for the Servo PLC V6.5.

Possible diagnostics?
Use the GDC (menu item: Help>PDB Info>File name (s)) to compare if the parameter set has been generated with the same basic device description which is used by the PLC target system into which the parameter set is to be loaded.

Short-term measures/recommendations?
Generate the parameter set for the PLC target system version into which the parameter set is to be loaded. Regarding this, open the GDC and select the PLC target system (menu item: Drive>Select). Open the parameter set. Read the parameters from the existent parameter set file (menu item: Drive parameters>Read all parameter sets from file…) and save the parameter set afterwards again (menu item: Drive parameters>Write all parameter sets to file…).

Evaluation:
The function restriction occurs quite rarely since PLC target system projects usually include user codes. This means that when a parameter set file is to be generated in the GDC the user selects the application-specific device description generated by the DDS instead of the basic device description.
