Answer:
For the Lenze servo motors MCS, MCA, MQA and MDxKA the approbation according to UL1004 and CSA 22.2 No. 100-04 is available under file No. E210321.
The designation of the approbation is made on the motor's name plate by the approbation symbol: cURus
The motors are authorized as 'recognised component', which can be seen from the designation with the symbol cURus.
Motors can only be authorized as 'recognised component', as usually they are mounted to a machine / device.
In case of motors MDSKS and MDFQA the optional approbation according to UL1004 is available, designation with UR.
An approbation according to CSA 22.2 is not available.
Information about the approbation by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) can be taken from the Internet under www.ul.com – Link certifications. After entry of the UL File No. you will receive further information (so-called yellow card).
Generally, in case of 'recognised components' the following conditions are to be considered:
conditions of acceptability of single components when they are mounted to other devices, which are supposed to be approved according to the UL Standard by the Underwriters Laboratories or a comparable authority (e. g. TÜV America).
Notes regarding temperature protection:
An especially important point is the motors' temperature protection demanded in the UL-instruction for the device approval.
The Lenze motors have no approved temperature protection (see conditions of acceptability). An approval of the temperature sensors as temperature protection by UL is not possible, since in case of an error / overload the temperature protection has to switch off the motor. For Lenze motors this is e. g. possible in conjunction with a controller or a motor protecting switch only.
An approval according to UL2111 (standard for overheating protection for motors) is only possible for motors, where the switch off is directly integrated in the motor (e. g. fan motor with integrated temperature switch).
When applications require an extended temperature protection (term from the UL-standard: 'Overheating Protection for Motors') one of the following measures is necessary:
- Application of a UL-appoved motor protection switch between motor and drive controller
- UL-approved I²t-motor temperature monitoring in the drive controller
Following Lenze-devices have a UL-approved I²t-motor temperature monitoring in the drive controller:
- 8200 vector / 8200 motec
- 8400 Inverter Drives (BaseLine / StateLine / HighLine / TopLine)
- 9300 vector (from firmware V8.0)
- 9400 Servo Drives
- ECS servo system
- E71 starttec
