Piece counter FCNT1 does not count, when FCNTx-CMP-VAL is not assigned

Question:

Why does the output of the free piece counter FCNT1 remains 0, although the inputs FCNTx-CLKUP and FCNTx-CLKDWN are 'wired' correctly and the signals are transmitted?

Answer:

The input FCNTx-CMP-VAL is to be assigned and a value  0 is to be applied, so that you can count up.

In case of both possible counting functions the input FCNTx-CMP-VAL determines the final value, where the counter returns (C1100 = return) or where the device is stopped (C1100 = hold). This is also valid when the comparison function is not applied.

Moreover, the following conditions are to be fulfilled so that the counter operates:
  • Start value FCNTx-LD-VAL < FCNTx-CMP-VAL

In the most simple case FCNT1-CMP-VAL can be connected fixed with 100 % (e. g. with function block FIXED-100%). The maximum count value is then 16384.

Further information can be found in the corresponding manuals.
