Transmitting the absolute position to the PLC

Question:

How can the position information of an absolute-value encoder (Multi-Turn) be used for external positioning tasks?

Answer:

If a PLC control is to take over the positioning, the encoder signal must be output via the terminal strip X10 as a master frequency signal.  This output contains the speed and angle information. The absolute positon is not transmitted via the master frequency.

In order to make this information available for the PLC, it is possible to transfer the function block output  MCTRL-PHI-ANG via the bus communication with CAN system bus or AIF (automation interface, i. e. Profibus, Interbus etc.). This output contains the absolute position of the motor within  +/- 32767 motor revolutions.

It must be observed that the transmission of this value assigns a double word of the 3 process data words available.
