Booting with PC system bus converter EMF 2173 / EMF 2177

Question:
Does the PC system bus converter (EMF2173IB / EMF2177IB) have to be plugged in when booting the PC so that Lenze applications can communicate with system bus devices?

Answer:
The LPT (parallel port) interface at the PC is not suitable for 'hot plug-in' (mounting during operation). Therefore, we do not recommend the plug of the so-called CAN dongle 2173 under voltage, this means during operation of the PC. Moreover, some Lenze tools' drivers in the installation program for the systembus communication are not able to detect safely a 2173 CAN dongle, which was plugged in at a later time:
  • Drive Server 1.0
  • Global Drive Control 4.4
  • Global Drive Loader 1.0
  • Global Drive PLC Developer Studio 1.4

An alternative is the 2177 systembus adapter for USB, which can also be plugged when the PC has already accelerated. Thus, it is suitable for 'hot plug-in'. It requires a separate driver update, which is delivered with the above-mentioned Lenze tools in a higher software version (systembus configuration). After plug in the new hardware is automatically detected and the required driver is loaded. Like all USB connections the systembus adapter should not be eliminated, as long as the device is not logged off in Windows.

The driver update can be found in the category 'downloads'.

Remark:
From our experience we know that a communication with DDS does not work, even after the 2173 systembus adapter has been plugged on the operating PC. This applies to
  • Global Drive PLC Developer Studio with all software versions
  • all further Lenze tools with the latest systembus configurator

Due to the above-mentioned reasons a safe communication cannot be guaranteed.
