Connect via a proxy server

If you are connected to a proxy server for your internet connection, you’ll have to configure the x500 to connect via that proxy server as well. The local IT department will know if this is the case and can provide you with the necessary information.

Select what applies to you:

  • My x500 is currently offline
  • My x500 is currently online

My x500 is currently offline

If the x500 is offline, you will need to create a configuration file like you did the first time you registered the x500. There is no need to remove the x500’s registration from X4 Remote.

  • Open the Fleet Manager app, which is accessible from the Apps menu in the top right corner if you are currently in a different X4 Remote app.
  • Open the main menu, go to Tools, and click [Start configuration] in the “Router config-file”-section.

You will be presented with different connection types to connect to X4 Remote. Please use the wired connection to add the proxy server configuration.

  • Select “Wired network” and click [Next] to continue.
  • Make sure the IP address and DNS server are set correctly. You can either check the x500’s current WAN configuration or consult the local IT administrator if you are unsure.
  • Expand the [HTTP Proxy] option and select “Connect through a proxy server”. Enter the proxy server’s IP address and port, and enter the proxy server authentication details, if applicable. If you are unsure about what to configure or enter, please consult the local IT administrator. Click [Next].
  • Make sure the x500’s LAN (machine network) IP address is set correctly. It’s advised to simply enter the x500’s current LAN IP address. Click [Next].
  • Click [Download file] to download the generated file, called router.conf, and save the file to the root directory of a USB flash drive. You may exit the configuration tool by clicking the X in the upper left corner.
  • Power on your x500. Skip this step if the x500 was already powered on.
  • Insert the USB flash drive into the x500’s USB port.

ACT LED status

The x500's ACT LED should blink blue quickly shortly after inserting the USB flash drive, indicating that the x500 is configuring itself.

If this hasn't happened after 1 minute, please check that the file is located in the root directory of the USB flash drive and that the file name is exactly "router.conf". Try a different USB flash drive if the problem persists.

After roughly 2 minutes, the x500's ACT LED should be solid blue, indicating that it has an active VPN connection to X4 Remote.

Connected via a proxy serverThe x500 will now connect via the configured proxy server.

My x500 is currently online

If the x500 is online, you can make the changes in X4 Remote and push them to the x500.

  • Open the Fleet Manager app, which is accessible from the Apps menu in the top right corner if you are currently in a different X4 Remote app.
  • Open the main menu, go to Devices, and select the concerning device.
  • Expand the Network options and go to [WAN].
  • Click [Configure] next to the wired connection.
  • Check the “Connect through a proxy server” option. Enter the proxy server’s IP address and port, and enter the proxy server authentication details, if applicable. If you are unsure about what to configure or enter, please consult the local IT administrator.
  • Click [Confirm].

You have now made the changes in X4 Remote, but these are not yet active in your device. You will need to push your changes to your device for them to take effect.

  • Click [Push config to device] in the top right corner.

Connected via proxy server

The x500 will now connect via the configured proxy server.
