DHCP server
The x500 has it’s own DHCP server that automatically assigns an IP address, and other necessary network parameters, to clients connected to the x500’s LAN ports if they do not have a static IP address configured.
Configure the DHCP server
The DHCP server is enabled by default, but can be disabled if necessary. It also automatically changes along with other changes you make. If you change the IP range of the x500’s LAN IP address, then the IP range of the DHCP server will automatically change as well.
Follow these steps if you want to manually change the DHCP server settings:
- Open the Fleet Manager app, which is accessible from the Apps menu in the top right corner if you are currently in a different X4 Remote app.
- Open the main menu, go to Devices, and select the concerning device.
- Expand the Network options and go to [LAN].
- Make your changes in the DHCP server section.
You have now made the changes in X4 Remote, but these are not yet active in your device. You will need to push your changes to your device for them to take effect.
- Click [Push config to device] in the top right corner.
DHCP server changed
The DHCP server settings have now been changed.
Configure address reservations
Support hardware and firmware
Address reservation is supported on the x500 in firmware 3.10 and up. Please upgrade your firmware if you are running an older version.
Generally, you configure your machine with a static IP address to ensure that you can always access that machine at a specific IP address. Saving you time that you would otherwise have to spend searching for the IP address or trying out different addresses. Especially valuable in time-sensitive situations.
In situations where your machines are set to automatically request an IP address you are never sure about their IP address, as it can be different the next day. Whenever such a machine requests an IP address, it receives a lease for a random IP address. When you add an address reservation to the DHCP server, that machine will always receive a lease for the same IP address, ensuring that you can always access that machine at a specific IP address.
The following steps explain how you add an address reservation to the DHCP server.
- Open the Fleet Manager app, which is accessible from the Apps menu in the top right corner if you are currently in a different X4 Remote app.
- Open the main menu, go to Devices, and select the concerning device.
- Expand the Network options and go to [LAN].
- Make sure the “Assign IP addresses automatically” box is ticked and a dynamic range is entered and confirmed (e.g. from 192.168.140.200 to 192.168.140.250).
- Click on [Add address reservation] in the “DHCP server”-section.
- Enter the connected client’s MAC address and a preferred IP address. Make sure that the IP address you enter is outside of the DHCP servers’ dynamic range.
- Click on [Add].
You have now made the changes in X4 Remote, but these are not yet active in your device. You will need to push your changes to your device for them to take effect.
- Click [Push config to device] in the top right corner.
Address reservation added
The address reservation has been added and is now active.
