Transformation through evolution has been the secret to Lenze’s success for 70 years
It’s a big achievement for a company to celebrate turning 70 – especially in this fast-paced time where economic cycles are getting shorter and shorter, and all companies are faced with the same global challenges that come with the age of digitalisation.
In 2017, Lenze celebrated its 70th anniversary with more than 4,000 international guests. The “Future Day of Mechanical Engineering,” an event for customers and the media, kicked off the celebrations. More than 400 industry experts and journalists from across the globe were invited to Lenze’s corporate headquarters near Hamelin to take a look at the future of mechanical engineering. What will be the trends of tomorrow? What current developments are affecting the industry? What solutions will define the future? These were just some of the questions that Lenze experts discussed with the company's customers, partners, journalists and friends. High-profile speakers from various sectors spoke about digitalisation, IoT and the future challenges and prospects of engineering.
For example, Michael Hilzinger, from Klöckner & Co. SE, gave an insight into the transformation of his group as a result of digitalisation. Hans-Jürgen Jakobs, Editor-in-Chief of Handelsblatt, talked about the importance of digitalisation for the economy and Professor Jan Teunen, Cultural Capital Producer, discussed the challenges of creating motivational working environments for employees. Not only the keynote speeches provided guests with ample discussion material, but also the many business talks, round table discussions and Lenze's own marketplaces. The evening was a time for celebration. We raised our glasses to 70 years of history, and a hopefully equally successful future, over delicious food, great music and dancing.

At the financial press conference the following day, Lenze's Executive Board presented the figures from the previous financial year to around 50 journalists, which were also presented in a new digital annual report for the first time. Lenze is breaking new ground with this and has, for the first time, presented its business activities and results in a target group-specific multimedia format, following the motto "70 Years. Industry 4.0."
Christian Wendler, Chairman of the Lenze Executive Board, also took advantage of our 70th anniversary to give customers and media representatives an initial overview of the company's new strategy, "Lenze 2020+". The subsequent trade press workshop with Chief Innovation Officer Frank Maier was entitled "The boundaries between drive and controller-based automation are disappearing" and showed the journalists in attendance just how entertaining Lenze-style innovation can be when the i950 from Lenze's new automation platform is controlled by Alexa.

The large family celebration at the Extertal site marked the end of a week of festivities. Around 4,000 Lenzians celebrated the anniversary under a clear sky and glorious sunshine, together with their families, as well as the company's friends and partners from around the world. The children were playing and the parents were in good spirits – it felt just like a fun birthday party. As well as children's entertainment, bull riding and a Formula 1 simulator, the "Walk of Time" was another particular highlight. Here, visitors could embark on a journey through Lenze’s seven-decade history and discover its most important milestones.
A special moment was the presentation of a cheque to the Pink Ribbon organisation. The cheque presentation was preceded by a sporty campaign, which allowed all Lenzians across the planet to donate the kilometres they’d travelled, coming to an impressive total of 287,714 kilometres. The money was donated to a special scheme supporting children and young people whose mothers have breast cancer.
